AHHH.....THE WITCHES ARE COMING!!!
This post is written in response to the Knox County Pagan Pride Day to be held near Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. It seems like Christians the last two weeks have been bustling around here to find out what should be done about this travesty coming to a town near us. I just have one question???
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN LATELY???
Pagan practices are not new to Knox County or to the Mount Vernon Area. Statistics actually show that this area is very prevelant in these practices, and maybe even one of the more prevelant places for this type of practice in the United States. So Christians, now is a good time to get educated... They are here, and have been here for awhile.
So why the big hustle and bustle now? Why is everyone worried now? Because they are having a gathering? This type of thinking worries me.
We are CHRISTIANS. We profess to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Why have we not been reaching out to these people, since they have been prominate in our area for so long? Why do we wait to even speak about it, until they have a gathering?
Should we protest it? Should we shut it down? Should we teach them a lesson once in for all? Or....should we do what Jesus did...and love people?
The same people that will be attending this festival, are the same people that walk our streets daily, and live in our communities...
This is a challenge...a challenge to people who profess Christianity. I was reading the at the website for this festival, and it said that their purpose was to be "the advancement of religion and elimination of prejudice and discrimination based on religious beliefs." This clues you in that these people have already had prejudice. They have already had people trying to shut them down. They have already had hate thrown against them....
Have they had the love of God???
I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins. He changed my life. I also believe that the Holy Spirit, which Christ sent to us, fills me and guides me. This same message that changed my life, has changed the lives of people throughout the last 2000 years. It happened to me over five years ago, when the love of God broke through all the walls I had put up. The love of God got to me.
Crazy things happen when the Holy Spirit of God works, and when we respond to the Spirit with the love of God for other people. We don't like to think that poverty, witchcraft, atheism, paganism, homelessness, prostitution, gangs, etc... walk on the same streets that we do. Open your eyes Christians of Knox County...it is out there.
So what is our response?
I say we should live by the power of the Holy Spirit. I say we should follow Jesus Christ. I say that we should not wait until the next Pagan Pride Day, or Gay Pride Day, or "anything" pride day.
I say we should start to love people today, and let the Holy Spirit and love of God that is working in our lives....pour out into the lives of others around us.
When that happens in our community, we won't have to worry about the next "pagan" festival, because we will be focusing on the revival taking place in our churches and in our communities.
